Eagles receive troubling injury update on Dallas Goedert

The Philadelphia Eagles will host the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch in what very well could be the best matchup on the Week 2 slate. However, they will be doing it without the services of tight end Dallas Goedert. Per Tom Pelissero, Goedert will be out in Week 2.

Dallas Goedert is out vs. Chiefs

Goedert is dealing with a knee sprain he sustained against the Dallas Cowboys, and he didn’t practice at all throughout the week. He had seven catches in the Week 1 win, but now the Eagles will need to rely on Grant Calcattera to pick up the slack – something head coach Nick Siranni is confident in.

“Grant’s done a really good job of stepping in and playing when Dallas hasn’t been able to play these last couple years,” Sirianni said via Chris McPherson. “Really excited about Kylen and the things he can do, and I like both of our guys that are on practice squad (and they) have had meaningful reps in games, whether Cam (Latu) was in San Francisco or E.J. (Jenkins) played a lot for us last year and did really good job on special teams for us. Both developing players.”

The early injury has sparked talk of this being Goedert’s final year in Philadelphia.

“It’s also worth mentioning that he is in the final year of his current contract, as Philadelphia seemed uninterested in extending him this past offseason,” Geoffrey Knox points out.

This isn’t anything new for the Eagles, as Goedert hasn’t played a full season since his rookie season in 2018. That said, having him would have been an advantage for the Eagles when it comes to throwing at Nick Bolton, as his pass coverage skills are subpar.

The good news for the Eagles is that their offense is still loaded. A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley are all healthy, and will be a handful to stop in their own rights.
