Kyle McCord had to deal with the bummer of being cut ahead of the NFL’s Tuesday roster cutdown deadline.
But by the end of Wednesday, things were looking up again for the former Ohio State and Syracuse quarterback now with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles signed McCord back onto their practice squad, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
McCord was a sixth-round pick in April, so it always seemed likely that he’d least end up on the practice squad if he wasn’t claimed on waivers.

Philadelphia has three quarterbacks ahead of McCord in Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee and Sam Howell. McKee is a bit dinged up, so Philly brought in Howell in a trade.
McCord will get to watch and learn as a rookie.
As a rookie, McCord will get $13,000 per week as long as he’s on the practice squad, which works out to $234,000 for an 18-week season.

McCord had turned himself into an intriguing NFL quarterback in his lone season at Syracuse.
When he transferred in from Ohio State, there were questions of whether he’d just ridden the coattails of his talented receivers.
But then at SU, McCord threw for 4,779 yard and 34 touchdowns, which are both single-season records for the Orange.
He seems to have potential to be a long-term backup, whether in Philadelphia or elsewhere. Getting onto the practice squad with the Eagles is the first step.
