Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts delivers prophetic 6-word message on handling the heat

Everyone knows how good Jalen Hurts is at football.

He’s a Super Bowl champion quarterback. He throws a brilliant spiral. He’s immensely mobile. He’s the most dangerous QB sneak player in the history of the game.

But did you know Hurts also has a way with words?

The Eagles have practiced in some intense heat at training camp the past couple days, and Hurts was asked about the conditions on Tuesday.

This is the message he delivered to reporters:

“Fatigue makes cowards of us all.”

That certainly sounds good.

Hurts’ message most likely has something to do with not letting the heat win, that if the players allow themselves to feel tired, it limits their willingness to take risks and make plays.

But it wouldn’t have been as fun to explain it out like that. In just those six words, Hurts delivered a powerful message.

Hurts, known for his otherworldly squats in the weight room, clearly doesn’t tire easily.

Last season, he started 15 games, in which the Eagles went 12-3. He completed a career-high 68.7% of his passes and tossed 18 touchdowns compared to just five interceptions.

He scored a lot more than that, of course, running for an additional 14 TDs, most via the tush push variety.

Hurts carried the ball 150 times for 630 yards overall.

And at the end of the season, Hurts was hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Any pushing through fatigue that had come to that point certainly was worth it in the end.

Many say it’s even harder for a team to repeat as a champion than it is to win it the first time. That’s part of what makes pushing through the pain so key for the Eagles and for their superstar quarterback. There’s still so much more to be gained.
