Eagles lined up to trade an AJ, but not Brown

The Philadelphia Eagles’ most popular name in trade rumors is star wide receiver A.J. Brown.

But with the NFL trade deadline coming on Nov. 4, it doesn’t seem likely that Brown gets moved.

They do have another AJ up for the taking, though: AJ Dillon.

ESPN’s Eagles beat writer, Tim McManus, thinks Dillon makes perfect sense to trade away.

“No, not Brown — he’s not expected to be going anywhere despite heavy speculation and occasional cryptic social media posts,” McManus writes. “The other AJ makes some sense, though. Tank Bigsby’s emergence in recent weeks (he rushed for over 100 yards against the Giants after Philly traded for him in September) has pushed Dillon down to fourth on the depth chart behind Saquon Barkley, Bigsby and Will Shipley. Dillon has been solid for Philadelphia this season, but there’s not much of a role for him currently.”

It’s the Bigsby emergence that makes this possible.

Early in the year, Dillon saw more work when Barkley had to go to the sideline. That just isn’t happening now.

Dillon is a proven veteran who could provide a contender with a solid short-yardage bruiser. He also wouldn’t cost much for another team to trade for after coming to the Eagles this offseason after his tenure with the Green Bay Packers.

Assuming Barkley’s Week 8 groin strain is a non-issue, the Eagles can hold Dillon through Sunday in Week 9 and then potentially move him to whatever team encounters new RB issues over the weekend.

Dillon still has some juice left. He just needs an opportunity.

His chance may not be in Philly, but it’s out there.
