The Anaheim Ducks have landed one of the last remaining major free agents left on the board according to insider Frank Seravalli. They have signed Mikael Granlund to a 3 year $7 million contract.
The 33 year old Finnish forward was one of the top prized possessions leading into this free agency cycle. The 13 year veteran recorded 22 goals and 44 assists for 66 points in 83 games split between the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars. He was a viable asset during the Stars western conference final playoff run, potting 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points in 18 games. His biggest performance was of course a hat trick in a first round win against the rival Colorado Avalanche, perhaps the best game of his career.
It turns out Granlund’s time away from California will be a short one as he returns to play for the Sharks top rival. He will slot into a top 6 role on a Anaheim Ducks team that is looking to come out of this long rebuild and return to the playoffs. This is a team that has been busy so far this offseason with the Kreider signing, Zegras trade, and Quenneville hiring as coach amongst some of their other most notable moves.
The journeyman playmaker vet has amassed 179 goals and 431 assists for 610 points in 902 games over the course of his lengthy career. That includes 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points in 77 career postseason games.
