Giannis Antetokounmpo has enjoyed a Hall of Fame-worthy career — one that includes winning two MVP awards and bringing the Milwaukee Bucks organization its first championship since 1. While many consider Antetokounmpo the best power forward in the league, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green sees it differently.
On a recent episode of The Draymond Green Show, alongside Baron Davis, he shared his reasoning as to why he doesn’t view Antetokounmpo as a traditional power forward.
“I’m going to disagree,” Green said.”And the reason I disagree is this. Giannis has played in an era where basketball has become somewhat positionless. And I don’t necessarily think that Giannis is a power forward and has been [during his career]. And that’s why I disagree with that.
Green elaborated on how positionless basketball is more prominent in today’s games and how Antetokounmpo has benefited from the evolution.
“Because Giannis is one of the greatest players of this era, and the game was kind of positionless. What made people start calling Giannis a power forward is because you had to start putting power forwards in the center [position] on Giannis [to guard him].”
“But if you look at the great power forwards. Giannis doesn’t play like Tim Duncan; Giannis doesn’t play like Kevin Garnett. So, I think people are being lazy and don’t understand what they’re looking at, and so they pigeonhole him into the power forward position. And I just don’t think that’s very accurate.”
Theres is no questioning Antetokounmpo’s greatness. Last season, he averaged a staggering 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while leading the Milwaukee Bucks to a 48-34 record. However, the Bucks’ postseason run was cut short. The Indiana Pacers eliminated them in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
The NBA has evolved to the point where players like Antetokounmpo can play multiple positions.
No one knows this better than Green, who has played alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Green was a cornerstone during the Warriors’ dynasty, helping the team win four championships.
While the league continues to evolve, one thing is undeniable and that’s Giannis Antetokounmpo’s greatness.
