Donnarumma future in doubt as PSG close in on move for Ligue 1 star

Gianluigi Donnarumma was central to PSG’s quadruple-winning 2024/25 season, producing key performances when it mattered in the UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1.

He remained as first-choice goalkeeper throughout their historic campaign and played a decisive role in the club’s historic first European title win.

However, despite his importance on the pitch, PSG are now facing a contract standoff with the Italy international.

Donnarumma has rejected the club’s latest contract renewal proposal after they reportedly offered him a new contract with a fixed annual salary of €7m [$8m] plus €3m [$3.5m] in performance bonuses.

Donnarumma currently earns  €10m [$11m] at the French club in fixed salary and he is frustrated by the potential of a wage cut at the Parc des Princes.

The situation is causing major concern for club officials who, after losing Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer last season, are unwilling to repeat the same mistake.

As Donnarumma enters the final year of his contract, this summer represents the last window for PSG to earn a fee, with major interest from the Premier League and Turkish side Galatasaray.

PSG make their move for Ligue 1 talent

In the background, PSG are already preparing for what comes next.  According to reports from L’Equipe and Foot Mercato [via VIPSG.FR], Luis Enrique has personally contacted Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, to share his future vision and explain his project at the club.

Chevalier, who is under contract until 2027 and was named Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year, was convinced by the conversation and has now told Lille he wants to leave.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is leading the negotiations with Lille and PSG have internally approved an offer of around €40m [$46m].

It’s also being reported Chevalier has also reached an agreement on a five-year deal with the Paris club.

Lille are now searching for his replacement and if final talks proceed without problems, Chevalier will become PSG’s first major signing of the summer.
