Where Tyreek Hill truly stands with the Miami Dolphins continues to be a bit of a mystery. Since the end of last season, which saw Miami miss the playoffs for the first time in two years, Hill has shown mixed feelings toward the team.
He initially said he wanted to be traded from the Dolphins before walking back those comments. Then, after rumors started to spread about a potential trade, Hill appeared to support the idea through social media posts.
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier, however, said back in mid-April that the Dolphins weren’t actively looking to move their star wide receiver, while naming a lofty asking price.
“That is not anything that we’re pursuing,” Grier said of a Hill trade, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. “Who knows? If someone wants to come and give me two first-round picks, we’ll consider it.”
Grier could change his tune if Hill continues to throw shade at Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. While on Snapchat, a fan asked Hill to rank his top five or 10 quarterbacks in the NFL.
Hill’s top five were: Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield and Joe Burrow. Though he did note they were in no particular order, Tagovailoa’s absence from the list was glaring.
Maybe outside of Mayfield, the other four would likely appear on many top-five lists. But omitting his own quarterback probably won’t sit well with the Dolphins’ front office or Hill’s teammates.
In 2023, Tagovailoa led the league in passing with 4,624 yards, earning his first Pro Bowl selection and a $212.4 million contract extension with Miami. Still, last season was another injury-marred campaign for Tagovailoa, who missed six games and finished 6-5 as a starter.
Tagovailoa’s absence contributed to a down year for Hill. After four straight 1,200-yard-plus seasons, he finished with 959 yards and six touchdowns.
Maybe Hill’s rankings were just honest. Or maybe they were another shot fueled by the All-Pro’s lingering frustrations in Miami.
