Dolphins shockingly acquire Minkah Fitzpatrick in Jalen Ramsey trade, completing ‘rare’ feat

The NFL world was sent into a frenzy Monday morning when it was announced that the Dolphins finally found a trade partner for Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey and the Dolphins have been looking to part ways since April, and a couple of months later, they’ve found a new home for the veteran.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter had been hinting that a trade for Ramsey would happen very soon — and it did. This came just before training camp, just as Schefter predicted.

“Jalen Ramsey will get traded. It’ll be, I would expect before the start of training camp. We’ll see how it shakes out, where he goes,” Schefter said.

Ramsey is now on his way to the Steelers, where he is already putting a teammate’s job — even his roster spot — in jeopardy.

“The addition of Ramsey does bring up questions to Beanie Bishop, who was the assumed starter at the slot cornerback position. Bishop may not be fighting for his place on the roster after the news, following being benched in 2024 for Cam Sutton. The undrafted second-year defender will need to beat out seventh-round pick Donte Kent for a role,” Sports Illustrated’s Noah Strackbein wrote.

The most surprising aspect of this blockbuster deal is that Pittsburgh traded a key player — Minkah Fitzpatrick, who has been a staple for them.

“Steelers traded three-time All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Dolphins in exchange for three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The rare player-for-player trade,” Schefter wrote.

Both teams got what they needed, but it’s surprising the Steelers were willing to give up Fitzpatrick. Ramsey now gets a fresh start in Pittsburgh and will look to make an impact for the Steelers. This move immediately makes Pittsburgh a Super Bowl contender, as they’re in win-now mode. As for Fitzpatrick, he returns to where it all started.
