The Miami Dolphins left a big gap in their secondary by trading Jalen Ramsey.
Getting Minkah Fitzpatrick in return is a solid move, but he doesn’t play the same versatile cornerback role as Ramsey.
That means another trade could be in the cards. For The Win’s Cory Woodroof wants Miami to call up the Browns.
His proposed deal: A fifth-round pick for Greg Newsome and a seventh-round pick.
“The Dolphins have a massive need at cornerback after trading away Jalen Ramsey, and Newsome could provide it,” Woodroof writes. “The former first-round pick might not start for Cleveland on the outside this season, and Miami has a clear gap for one of its outside cornerback spots that Newsome could immediately fill. With Newsome playing on his fifth-year option, he might not be long for the Browns anyhow. The Dolphins could trade for Newsome and pay him on the spot or let him play out the final year of his contract before getting first dibs on negotiating a new contract for 2026 and beyond. Miami would feel better about its secondary after this trade.”

Newsome was the rare football first-round pick out of Northwestern.
He has been very crucial at times for the Browns, but has now fallen a bit out of favor and is facing the last year of his contract.
He could benefit from that fresh start, which could even lead to a new contract. The Dolphins can try to provide that freshness for him.
