The Miami Dolphins have held onto Jalen Ramsey much longer than many expected. Both the veteran cornerback and the franchise have been aware that a trade was likely, but for reasons still unclear, the deal has been delayed. June 1 had been the projected date for a potential move, but now ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes the trade will come closer to the start of training camp.
“Jalen Ramsey will get traded. It’ll be, I would expect before the start of training camp. We’ll see how it shakes out, where he goes,” Schefter said.
Ramsey reportedly prefers a return to Los Angeles—either with the Rams or the Chargers—but a reunion with the Rams is currently seen as the most likely outcome.
“For now, it appears a reunion with the Los Angeles Rams is the likeliest outcome. The Dolphins acquired Ramsey from the Rams in March 2023 in exchange for tight end Hunter Long and the 77th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This time around, the return would likely be noticeably less for the Dolphins,” Yahoo Sports’ Matt Johnson wrote.
One major obstacle for teams interested in Ramsey is his hefty $24 million guaranteed salary for the upcoming season. CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin believes the Chargers are a strong candidate to land him.
“A reunion with the Rams makes sense given their title aspirations and secondary needs, but the Chargers were reportedly close to swinging a major deal for Metcalf earlier this offseason, so they could be even more primed to part with real draft capital, this time to shore up the back end of Jesse Minter’s defense. They’ve still got north of $25 million in 2025 salary cap space,” Benjamin wrote.

Ramsey would be thrilled to return to Los Angeles, and among the teams in play, the Chargers may be best positioned to absorb his contract. A move to the AFC West would also set the stage for Ramsey to face off against one of the league’s top quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes, at least twice a year.
