Dodgers vs. Phillies final score, results: Orion Kerkering’s crushing extra-innings error sends L.A. to NLCS

JUMP TO:

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ title defense continues.

Game 4 of the NLDS was a pitchers’ duel, but the Dodgers outlasted the Philadelphia Phillies in 11 innings, 2-1, thanks to an Orion Kerkering walk-off error.

First, the starting pitchers in this game were both excellent. Tyler Glasnow and Cristopher Sanchez went blow-for-blow, as they each threw six scoreless inning sto open the game. Neither offense really threatened to score much in that span, producing a pitching classic.

In the seventh, Dave Roberts took Glasnow out for Emmet Sheehan, and Sheehan committed an error that would lead to the first run on a Nick Castellanos double. However, the Dodgers struck back in the bottom of the inning, as Jhoan Duran walked Mookie Betts with the bases loaded.

The game remained tied for the next three innings thanks to both bullpens. Roki Sasaki shined for the Dodgers, throwing three perfect innings, while Matt Strahm and Jesus Luzardo matched him for Philadelphia.

In the top of the 12th, the Phillies had a man on second, but Alex Vesia was able to work around him. In the bottom of the frame, Tommy Edman and Max Muncy both singled to get the winning run on third, and after a walk, Orion Kerkering threw an Andy Pages grounder away to allow the winning run to score.

The Dodgers get back to the NLCS for the sixth time since 2016 as they look to win back-to-back titles. Philadelphia, meanwhile, is headed home in the NLDS for the second-straight season.
