The 2025 MLB season begins with a showdown between defending World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs in a two-game series in Tokyo, on March 18 and 19.
It marks the first time in over 60 years that these two teams will meet on Opening Day. The Dodgers, one of Major League Baseball’s most successful franchises, secured their eighth championship victory last year, and head into the new season as the team to beat.
Meanwhile, the Cubs continue to have one of the most passionate fanbases in the sport, still cherishing their 2016 title that ended a 108-year championship drought.
Adding to the excitement, the series will be a homecoming for Dodgers’ Japanese stars Shohei Ohtani and Rōki Sasaki, who will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of home fans. This is the sixth time that Japan has hosted the MLS season-opener.
