The Los Angeles Dodgers are constantly in “win now” mode. That mentality could make them open to swinging a blockbuster trade near the trade deadline.
Max Muncy has been the Dodgers’ primary third baseman, but is slashing just .205/.330/.323. The team could use an upgrade in his spot, and the Colorado Rockies could have the perfect player to fill their need. Ryan McMahon was an All-Star in 2024, but is struggling this season. ClutchPoints’ Garrett Kerman proposed this trade that brings McMahon to Los Angeles.
- Dodgers receive: Ryan McMahon
- Rockies receive: Josue De Paula and Nick Frasso
De Paula and Frasso are both top 10 prospects in the Dodgers organization, with De Paula poised to become the top prospect soon, now that Dalton Rushing is in the big leagues. McMahon would be able to replace Muncy at third base, and perhaps playing for a winning team would get him back to swinging his bat like fans saw last season. Additionally, McMahon is under contract through 2027 after signing a $70 million deal in 2022.
“Los Angeles acquires a Gold Glove-caliber third baseman under contract through 2027, solidifying the infield and providing insurance if Max Muncy departs,” wrote Kerman. “McMahon’s left-handed bat fits perfectly in a righty-heavy lineup, and his defensive versatility allows the Dodgers to mix and match as needed. While the Dodgers part with significant prospect capital, they do so from a position of depth, and the move signals a commitment to winning now and in the future.”

The Dodgers are not going to leave their World Series aspirations up to chance. They are not going to wait around much longer for Muncy to start hitting well. Adding McMahon is a great move for them, but also one that would jumpstart the Rockies’ rebuild.
“The 2025 trade deadline is a pivotal moment for the Rockies,” wrote Kerman. “Trading McMahon is the bold move that can change the franchise’s trajectory. The time to act is now.”
