Dodgers trade idea would bring World Series champion with 3.33 ERA to LA

Injuries have decimated the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation. They could swing a trade to help ensure it does not keep them from making another World Series run.

Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Rōki Sasaki are all on the injured list. Shohei Ohtani is still building up to join the rotation. Snell and Glasnow are expected to return, but Sasaki’s injury seems to be more concerning. The Dodgers have World Series aspirations, but may need another starting pitcher.

Starting pitchers may not be abundantly available, but the Dodgers do not need an ace. The Yankees need a durable arm who can pitch in the middle of their rotation. MLB insider Mark Feinsand suggested the Dodgers could be in play for Pittsburgh Pirates starter Andrew Heaney.

“No, this isn’t the Pittsburgh starting pitcher whose potential availability has generated so much buzz, but Paul Skenes isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Mitch Keller could be in play, though he’s signed through 2028, so Heaney – who is pitching on a one-year, $5.25 million deal – could be a better option,” wrote Feinsand. “Heaney is 3-5 despite a 3.33 ERA in 14 starts, and the 34-year-old has pitched in the postseason in two of the past three seasons.”

Heaney had a 4.22 ERA in the last two seasons, but his biggest asset is his ability to stay healthy. He won a World Series with the Texas Rangers, so his postseason experience would be valuable to the Dodgers.

Heaney will be a free agent after the season, and the Pittsburgh Pirates are slated to be sellers at the trade deadline. Adding him to the Dodgers rotation alongside Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Glasnow, Snell and Clayton Kershaw could help the Dodgers repeat as champions.
