Dodgers trade idea lands $260 million All-Star from Cardinals

The Los Angeles Dodgers are off to a hot start in 2025. They are 16-8 to start the year and sit just one game back of the first place San Diego Padres in the National League West.

After all, Los Angeles had a very busy offseason, flexing their financial muscle and signing several top free agents.

However, that doesn’t mean that they’re done adding pieces to their mix. Third baseman Max Muncy is in the final year of his contract but is struggling.

The Dodgers may have a need at third base when the trade deadline comes around. Dayn Perry of CBS Sports proposed the idea of Los Angeles rekindling their interest in Nolan Arenado.

“All of this is to say the two factors most essential to keeping the Arenado trade market alive – improved offensive performance on Arenado’s part and poor results at the team level for St. Louis – are trending in the necessary directions. It’s too speculative to get into trade specifics, but it’s worth noting a couple of situations,” Perry writes.

“If Max Muncy’s struggles persist, then the Los Angeles Dodgers may be a team to monitor. It’s all fluid, of course.”

Arenado is off to a strong start with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2025. He’s hitting .268/.375/.427 with two home runs, 10 RBI and an .802 OPS.

St. Louis is falling out of contention early and could potentially look to trade Arenado at the deadline if their current trajectory continues.

The Dodgers had interest in Arenado at the 2023 trade deadline, but St. Louis chose to keep the star third baseman in hopes of contending in 2024, which didn’t work out in their favor.

Arenado is a Southern California native and would be experiencing a homecoming if he were to join the Dodgers. He would also make Los Angeles that much stronger late in the season.

We’ll see if the Dodgers end up rekindling their interest in the slugger.
