Dodgers’ Tommy Edman discusses possible need for offseason surgery

The main goal for Tommy Edman and the Los Angeles Dodgers is to capture a World Series title for the second straight year, but it doesn’t hurt to address plans for the future.

It doesn’t appear Tommy Edman has missed a beat this postseason. Through 11 October games, he’s batting .262 while averaging a hit per game, two home runs, and six RBI. Still, a lingering ankle injury that limited him to 97 regular-season games in 2025 remains a concern.

Edman spent time on the injured list three separate times this year, so manager Dave Roberts limited him to playing second base to avoid further injuries. What will be the next steps for Los Angeles’ postseason standout?

Tommy Edman isn’t counting out offseason surgery for lingering ankle setback

When asked about his ankle injury, Edman said he’s not sure what comes next.

“I’m not sure. We’ll probably evaluate that after the season’s over. For now, I think just playing the rest of the games of the World Series will be totally fine. It’s actually improved a good amount throughout postseason. It feels like it’s in a really good spot now. But, yeah, that’s something we’ll talk about in the off-season.”

The plan moving forward will be for the 30-year-old to stay at second base for the rest of the World Series, keep Mookie Betts at shortstop, and win three more games over the Blue Jays.

If the Dodgers can win their second straight World Series, they will be the first team to go back-to-back since the New York Yankees did it three times in a row at the turn of the century (1998 to 2000).
