Dodgers to acquire $870k veteran reliever from Twins to boost bullpen

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been relatively quiet at this year’s trade deadline. They have needs, but haven’t been overly aggressive.

However, they finally have made a move to strengthen their roster. The trade deadline is less than five hours away, and they addressed a key issue.

Bullpen help was something on their list, and with so few relievers available, the market favors selling teams. But the Dodgers finally added a key piece in a trade with the Minnesota Twins.

Jeff Passan of ESPN was first to the news of the trade.

“The Los Angeles Dodgers are finalizing a deal to acquire right-handed reliever Brock Stewart from the Minnesota Twins, sources tell ESPN,” Passan posted on X.

Stewart, 33, made his Major League debut with the Dodgers back in 2017. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline in 2019.

He pitched in the Independent League in 2020 and missed all of 2021 due to an injury. He also did not pitch in 2022, but joined the Twins in 2023.

After struggling in 2024, Stewart has found his form this season. He is 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 39 appearances with Minnesota.

The veteran right-hander is on an expiring deal, which made him an attractive trade piece, especially given the terms of his contract. He should give the Dodgers a boost down the stretch.

We’ll see if Los Angeles has any more moves coming.
