The New York Yankees are fresh off a World Series appearance and still need to add a few more pieces before spring training arrives.
While the free agency market is getting thinner by the day, the trade market is still a viable avenue for general manager Brian Cashman to make some moves.
One of the biggest remaining needs for the Yankees following the turn of the new year comes in the infield. They can afford to add either a second or third baseman given the flexibility Jazz Chisholm gives them to work at both spots.
After the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Korean star and second baseman Hyeseong Kim, it could open a trade target for the Yankees to pursue.
With a potential logjam at second base, the Yankees could target 27-year-old Gavin Lux in a trade.
Though trades between powerhouses are rare, Lux would be an upgrade over what the Yankees have currently manning the second base position.
Lux may be a slightly below-average defender at second base, logging a -2 Outs Above Average, but that would be an upgrade over what the Yankees had in Gleyber Torres defensively.
Lux would be another left-handed bat the Yankees could work with near the bottom of the order, potentially in the seven-hole where he has a career .727 OPS.
This wouldn’t be a groundbreaking trade, nor a deal that would immediately make the Yankees World Series favorites.
But it could be a cheap deal the Yankees pursue to slightly upgrade a position of need.
