The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series this past fall, overcoming various injuries and soaring past some of the best teams in the National League to reach their goal.
The goals and expectations will be the same for 2025, although the cast of characters might look slightly different. For example, the Dodgers have already signed outfielder Michael Conforto to a one-year deal, which may ultimately mean there is no room to re-sign Teoscar Hernandez.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report predicted that Hernandez would ultimately leave the Dodgers and sign a deal with the Boston Red Sox.
“Hernández has 14 home runs and a .950 OPS at Fenway Park. The latter is his highest for any stadium at which he’s taken at least 100 plate appearances,” Rymer wrote.
“The Red Sox have a surplus of outfielders, but not of right-handed hitters. Hernández is about as well as they can do in regard to the latter, and it would be easy for Red Sox manager Alex Cora to get him at-bats in left field and at designated hitter.”
Boston needs a middle-of-the-order presence in order to emerge as a contender in the American League. Hernandez could be their man.
As for the Dodgers, they may need to look elsewhere if they want power. A reunion isn’t impossible, but the signing of Conforto might make things a little bit harder.
Hernandez slashed .272/.339/.501 with 33 home runs, 99 RBI, and .840 OPS and a 4.3 WAR. He also stole 12 bases during the regular season.
Replacing that presence will not be easy for the Dodgers, even with the financial resources they have at their disposal. We’ll see what Hernandez’s market looks like in the coming weeks.
