The Los Angeles Dodgers have started off the 2025 season with a bang. They’re 5-0 as they begin the defense of their 2024 World Series title.
They had a busy offseason to enhance their chances of a potential repeat, signing players such as Teoscar Hernandez, Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates, among others.
Typically, when a team wins the World Series, they’ll follow it up with a trip to the White House, but other championship winners from 2024 have refused a trip to the White House as a form of protest against current president Donald Trump.
However, the Dodgers have accepted the invitation, and Stan Kasten, the team’s owner, chimed in on their decision to do so.
“This has nothing to do with politics. For everyone in this room, this is about what they get as their reward for being world champions, getting to the White House,” Kasten said. “I think there are probably people in this room who have different points of view on politics. No one thought this trip is about politics, it’s about celebrating their world championship.”
It appears that despite other organizations saying they would refuse a trip to the White House, the Dodgers are intent on fulfilling these plans.
This will certainly be met with some criticism, as many have spoken out against the president. But the Dodgers appear to be holding firm.
This comes after the Trump administration decided to briefly erase an article from the U.S. Department of Defense’s website about Jackie Robinson’s Army service, which was met with much backlash.
The visit will take place on April 7 when the Dodgers are in the Nation’s Capital facing off against the Washington Nationals. But it’s easy to understand why this decision by the team is drawing some criticism.
It will be interesting to see how everything plays out and what the fanbase’s response will be in the coming weeks.
