Dodgers get major Blake Snell injury update

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Blake Snell since early April after he was placed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. He is, however, working towards getting back on the field.

Snell met with a doctor before he took the next steps in his recovery. His doctor visit seems to have gone well, as he has taken a big step toward getting back on the mound for the Dodgers, according to the Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.

“The Dodgers appear to have avoided the worst with two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell, who was officially cleared to start a throwing progression after meeting with team doctors this week to discuss the state of his injured left shoulder,” wrote Ardaya. “That started on Wednesday, as he played catch from 60 feet.”

Snell signed a five-year, $182 million deal with the Dodgers this offseason. He is a two-time Cy Young Award winner, a two-time ERA champion and a one-time All-Star. Snell had a 3.12 ERA last season. However, his ERA in the second half of the season was more reminiscent of his Cy Young Award form.

He had a 1.45 ERA in the second half of the 2024 season. In two starts for the Dodgers, he had given up two earned runs in nine innings of work. Snell is the all-time leader in strikeouts per nine. Getting him back will be a huge boost for the Dodgers’ starting rotation, which has gotten surprisingly thin.

The Dodgers are currently without Tyler Glasnow, Rōki Sasaki, Shohei Ohtani and Clayton Kershaw in the rotation. However, Kershaw is expected to start this weekend and Snell seems to be getting closer. The Dodgers’ rotation could be at full strength sooner rather than later.
