Dodgers get huge bullpen boost ahead of NL West battle with Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced relief pitcher Kirby Yates has been activated off the injured list and will join the Dodgers for their Saturday night game against the San Diego Padres.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers placed Blake Snell on the paternity list.

After activating reliever Tanner Scott before Friday’s game, now the Dodgers get another valuable arm back in what is their most important series of the season.

Dodgers’ Bullpen Coming Back To Shape

The Dodgers have faced a mountain of injuries this season in every area, but they’re starting to get healthy as the postseason approaches.

Los Angeles has the fourth-best bullpen in the MLB, with an ERA of 3.53. However, the names many expected to lead the Dodgers bullpen have struggled this season.

Yates, Scott and reliever Lou Trivino have a combined average ERA over four, and have missed time with injury this season. But guys like Alex Vesia, Jack Dreyer and Anthony Banda have stepped up.

Now, the Dodgers hope a healthy Scott and Yates will bolster their bullpen for another deep playoff run.

The Dodgers and Padres are tied on top of the NL West after the Padres took the series opener on Friday night, 2-1. The Dodgers have won the season series, so they do hold the tie-breaker.

However, after this weekend’s series, the two rivals will not face each other again for the final month of the regular season.

The Dodgers got two big bullpen arms back this weekend and could have more coming soon. Reliever Michael Kopech could be activated from the injured list shortly after Yates, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.

The Dodgers and Padres play the second game of their three-game weekend series on Saturday night at 5:40 p.m. MST.
