Shohei Ohtani’s plan changed on Wednesday.
And in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ slow and steady path to bringing Ohtani back to an MLB mound, that’s not a great sign.
Ohtani was supposed to throw a light bullpen session on Wednesday, according to the Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett.
Instead, Ohtani only played catch in the outfield.
On the one hand, it’s a concern for L.A. Any perceived setback in this long journey back from Tommy John surgery for the two-way superstar is cause for a bit of alarm.
On the other hand, if something was seriously wrong with Ohtani’s right elbow, he wouldn’t have thrown a baseball in any form.

It’s likely just a small bump in the road, but it’ll take comments from manager Dave Roberts to clear anything up for the Dodgers faithful.
Ohtani is in the Dodgers’ lineup batting leadoff as the designated hitter on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field, so it seems any major crises have been averted.
Although, to be fair, Ohtani had a 50-50 season last year while his right elbow was recovering from Tommy John.
At this point, there’s still a lot of unknowns in Ohtani’s return.
For the sake of the Dodgers and the overall world popularity of baseball, hopefully this is just a blip for Ohtani and he soon can get back on track to returning to the mound.
