Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman drops surprising retirement timeline

Father’s time comes for everyone — even the all-time greats.

Freddie Freeman acknowledged that earlier this week in a sitdown with Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

“Obviously it’s not set in stone. I have two years left on this contract (after 2025),” he said. “Then I would like to play two more years. I would turn 40 in September of 2029. So including this year, if I were to do 150 hits for all five years – just an average – you reach it. Obviously … Father Time, you never know when that’s going to hit. I’m trying to keep it away as long as I can. If I can have decent years this year and the next couple years, it’s an easier reach.”

Freeman also added a few milestones he’d like to hit before his time in the big leagues is up.

“As you’re a kid growing up, for me it was 500 home runs, 3,000 hits, Freeman told Plunkett. “Those were the numbers. … Round numbers are really cool.”

“So including this year, if I were to do 150 hits for all five years – just an average – you reach it,” Freeman said.

Freeman, however, is a realist and knows that everyone’s time comes eventually.

“I’ve got less than a handful of years left. You do think about those type of things. But that’s not the forefront obviously. Winning is at the forefront for me. But if I’m on the field and I’m healthy, I believe in myself that potentially I have a good chance of making it.”

Freeman is batting an incredible .376 with a 1.170 OPS thus far in 2025.
