Dodgers Freddie Freeman could be ‘one slip-up’ away from IL

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman has been dealing with an ankle injury for weeks, and it appears he could be one slip away from getting placed on the injured list.

Freeman injured his ankle earlier this Major League Baseball season after he slipped in the shower. He ended up being placed on the 10-day IL. Since then, Freeman has had to monitor his ankle and do hours of treatment to be able to play.

With that, MLB analyst Deesha Thosar of FOX Sports believes Freeman is one slip-up from being placed on the IL again.

“I think his future success depends entirely on how Freeman manages his ankle injury,” Thosar wrote. “We’ve seen it be debilitating for him as recently as earlier this season when he slipped in the shower and re-aggravated it.

“That tells me he can’t place too much pressure on the ankle even off the field, and he goes through extensive, hours-long treatment for it every day just to play,” Thosar added. “It’s a lot to maintain, and it seems like one slip-up in the treatment and recovery process could lead to a potential IL stint.”

Although Freeman is still monitoring his ankle injury, he has continued to play well. He’s hitting .370 with 9 home runs and 34 RBIs and has been a key reason for the Dodgers’ success this season.

Freeman is in the fourth year of his six-year, $162 million deal with the Dodgers. He’s an eight-time All-Star and one-time NL MVP, while he’s won two World Series, one with the Dodgers and one with the Atlanta Braves.
