Dodgers’ Dave Roberts hints at benching power bat amid World Series consistency concerns

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to go back-to-back with World Series championships. The Dodgers have been powering through the postseason without looking back. Los Angeles had lost only one game in the playoffs before falling to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the World Series. The bullpen took a significant hit when Alex Vesia was unable to make the roster.

“Alex Vesia is off the World Series roster and not on a bereavement list that would allow him to return between three and seven days, by the way. The Dodgers will try to secure another championship without one of their most trusted relievers,” ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez wrote.

In the World Series, it’s crucial for the Dodgers to continuously put themselves in position to win games. A change might be coming to the starting lineup, as manager Dave Roberts has hinted at the possibility of benching Andy Pages.

“Dave Roberts says he’s ‘keeping a close eye’ on Andy Pages and has considered making a change if his struggles continue,” Dodgers Blue posted.

Pages was a hero in the NLCS, but lately, he’s been struggling. There isn’t much time left for him to negatively impact the remaining games. It’s World Series or nothing, and Roberts is prepared to do whatever it takes.

“Dave Roberts may preach patience, but October rarely waits for players to find rhythm. Andy Pages’ glove can save runs, yet it cannot keep the scoreboard quiet forever. If his bat stays asleep, the Dodgers might need faith, luck, and a new plan,” Essentially Sports’ Karthik Sri Hari wrote.

In Game 2, Pages went 1-for-4 at the plate, which may have earned him another day in the starting lineup. For any player, this is the worst time to fall into a slump.

The Dodgers are trying to accomplish something no team has done in a long time. Pages’ struggles won’t reflect well on a team that needs its best nine players on the field.
