Dodgers could dump beloved starter in long shot trade for $108 million All-Star

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series in 2024 and have continued to get better. They added Blake Snell to their rotation and could potentially add another All-Star.

While listing trade destinations for Seattle Mariners starter Luis Castillo, MLB Trade Rumors’ Nick Deeds noted that the Dodgers could dump Gavin Lux in a long shot trade for him.

“The Dodgers are not known to have interest in Castillo but are always a threat to upgrade their roster and could certainly benefit from adding a steady, innings-eating arm like him to the cavalcade of high-octane arms with durability questions that currently make up their starting rotation,” wrote Deeds. “Even so, however, the Dodgers have little to offer from their infield mix at the moment. Perhaps Gavin Lux could be a serviceable platoon partner for Moore at second base, but even adding a young starter such as Landon Knack alongside Lux seems unlikely to entice the Mariners to part ways with Castillo.”

Lux has started 412 games for the Dodgers since 2010. He is a two-time World Series Champion with the team and has a .252/.326/.383. He has 28 career home runs and may not have a prominent role in 2025.

Castillo is a three-time All-Star and signed a five-year, $108 million deal in 2023. The Mariners have a surplus of talented starters and need any offensive upgrades they could get. A trade for Castillo would cost the Dodgers more than just Lux, but he could play every day for the Mariners.

For the Dodgers, Lux has made starts at third base, second base, shortstop, left field and center field. He could be a versatile addition for the Mariners.
