The Los Angeles Dodgers are 39-27, but have lost four of their last seven games. They were able to win their final game of their weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Clayton Kershaw was on the mound for the series finale and the Cardinals took it as an opportunity to call back to the 2014 National League Division Series. In the final game of that series, Matt Adams hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning off of Kershaw to erase a 2-0 Dodgers lead. It was Adams’ only home run of the series.
The Cardinals played a video of the decisive home run before Kershaw’s start, and he offered some strong comments on the situation.
“I think it’s bush league, but I don’t expect anything less from these guys, so it’s no worries,” Kershaw said after the game.
Kershaw ended up going five innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven. It was his fifth start of the year and he ended up picking up his first win of the season. The Dodgers are relying on Kershaw more now that Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Rōki Sasaki and Tony Gonsolin are all on the injured list.

Kershaw has a 3.59 ERA against the Cardinals in 23 regular-season games. 158 of his 2983 career strikeouts have come against them. Even though the Cardinals are still enjoying Adams’ 2014 home run, they ended up falling short of the World Series that season. Kershaw has now been part of two World Series teams and is trying to help the Dodgers win back-to-back World Series titles.
