Dodgers-Cardinals trade pitch would bring $15 million star to LA

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been hit by injuries, and the reliability of their starters to stay healthy is a question mark. They could swing a trade for some more insurance.

The Dodgers currently are without Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Rōki Sasaki. While they expect all three and Shohei Ohtani back on the mound at some point, they may be in the market for some reinforcements near the trade deadline. FanSided’s Katrina Stebbins suggested they trade for Erick Fedde of the St. Louis Cardinals.

“The Cardinals are having a better go at things through their first 50 games than they did last year, when they ended up staying below .500 until mid-June, but they’re going to have a very tough time getting around the Cubs in the NL Central and may be squeezed out of a Wild Card spot by the (New York) Mets, (San Francisco) Giants, and (san Diego) Padres,” wrote Stebbins. “That picture will become clearer by the deadline, but if things are still looking dire, Fedde could be an option.”

Fedde signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the White Sox last offseason, but ended up getting traded to the Cardinals. He had a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts before being traded and a 3.72 ERA in 10 starts afterward. He will be a free agent after the season.

Adding Fedde would give the Dodgers insurance in the rotation in case they deal with more injuries. It would also allow them to move one of their backend starters to the bullpen and replace them with Fedde.

This season, Fedde has a 3.77 ERA in ten starts. He has struck out 34 batters and has even thrown a complete game shutout. Slotting him alongside any group of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Snell, Glasnow, Sasaki, Ohtani and Clayton Kershaw could help the Dodgers win the National League again.
