Dodgers-Braves get rain delay update in close game

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves played eight hard-fought innings Friday night.

They had to wait to play the ninth.

At about 9:25 p.m. ET, the game was sent into a rain delay in Atlanta.

The Dodgers led 2-1 at the time of the delay after the final out of the eighth.

L.A. had opened the scoring in the fourth inning when a Will Smith sacrifice fly scored Mookie Betts.

Then in the sixth, Betts pulled a home run to left-center to take a 2-0 lead.

The Braves answered back in bottom seven on a Matt Olson homer.

Neither team scored in the eighth, setting up an intriguing final inning.

Technically, the game could go in the books as a completed contest, but it’s unlikely MLB would go that route in a tight contest between two uber-talented ball clubs.

Dodgers righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto was a star on Friday, going 6.0 scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out six.

Braves starter Grant Holmes struck out nine in his 6.0 innings of work while allowing the two Dodgers runs.

The Dodgers entered the night at 21-10, while the Braves are trying to get back into things at 14-16 after a brutal start to the campaign.
