The Los Angeles Dodgers have already added one superstar this offseason by signing Blake Snell. Could they pull off one final blockbuster trade before Opening Day?
The Dodgers currently have Max Muncy penciled in at third base. However, Nolan Arenado has long been looking to get traded and the Dodgers were his top choice earlier in the offseason according to MLB insider John Denton. FanSided’s Zach Pressnell proposed this trade that would send Arenado to Los Angeles from the St. Louis Cardinals:
- Dodgers receive: third baseman Nolan Arenado and $30 million
- Cardinals receive: right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller
“First of all, the Dodgers don’t necessarily need Miller going forward, which makes him expendable in this deal,” wrote Pressnell. “Los Angeles has a rotation of Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto all locked up for multiple years. This doesn’t include pitchers like River Ryan and Justin Wrobleski, who are waiting in the wings. The Dodgers also have guys like Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin available. The Cardinals would love to land such a high-potential prospect.”
In 2019, Arenado signed an eight-year, $260 million deal with the Colorado Rockies before he was traded to the Cardinals. The money going to the Dodgers would help cover some of the contract for Arenado. He is an eight-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glover, five-time Silver Slugger and six-time Platinum Glover.
Last season he slashed .272/.325/.394. As spring training approaches, the Cardinals may be more desperate to move Arenado. A move for the All-Star would likely move Max Muncy to the bench or force the Dodgers to trade him.
