Dodgers Blake Snell ‘shed a tear’ after latest injury update

The Los Angeles Dodgers originally placed Blake Snell on the injured list on April 6. However, he was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on May 17.

Snell signed a five-year, $182 million deal with the Dodgers this offseason. He is a two-time Cy Young Award winner, a two-time ERA champion and a one-time All-Star. He has started throwing again and provided an update on his rehab on AM 570 LA Sports.

“I’m throwing from 120 feet now. It’s coming out with no pain. I feel good. I’m excited. Threw a couple of changeups and shed a tear,” Snell said while laughing. “Pretty excited. I can’t wait. When I signed, I was so excited, and this is all I wanted to do. Having to wait, it sucks. It’s a long process, but I’m going to go slow and make sure I’m ready so when I start pitching, I can get going and do my thing.”

Snell had a 3.12 ERA last season, despite a poor start to the season. Getting him back in the rotation would be a huge upgrade for the Dodgers, especially if they get a version of Snell similar to his Cy Young Award seasons and the second half of last season.

He had a 1.45 ERA in the second half of the 2024 season. In two starts for the Dodgers, he had given up two earned runs in nine innings of work. He is also the all-time leader in strikeouts per nine innings, so his return should set the Dodgers up for dominance on the mound.

Snell is not the only Dodgers pitcher working his way back. Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow and Rōki Sasaki are also not pitching right now, perhaps putting more pressure on Snell to get ready so he can help the team.
