The Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching staff has been hit with injuries early in the season. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are both on the injured list, and Snell’s progression has once again been delayed.
Snell was placed on the injured list on April 6, retroactive to April 3, with a shoulder injury. He was supposed to start playing catch during the Dodgers’ trip to Miami, but that was postponed to Friday when the Dodgers played the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, he has once again been set back, according to the Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett.
“He was supposed to play catch during the series in Miami,” wrote Plunkett. “That was postponed until Friday. But he didn’t throw Friday and is now scheduled to play catch on Sunday.”
Snell was dealing with an illness that had played a role in his setbacks. Manager Dave Roberts feels that his illness is a factor in the delayed start of his throwing progression. The Dodgers staff is already thinner than the team would like, so Snell’s delays are surely frustrating.
“I think being sick set him back a couple days,” Roberts said Friday, according to Plunkett.

The Dodgers signed Snell to a five-year, $136 million deal last winter. He is a two-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time ERA champion. He will play a huge role in the Dodgers’ quest for back-to-back championships when he returns to the mound. He has a 2.00 ERA in two starts this season. The Dodgers are also awaiting returns from Shohei Ohtani and Clayton Kershaw to their starting rotation.
