Dodgers 8x All-Star offers 5-word response to ‘inexplicable stomach illness’

The Los Angeles Dodgers remain World Series favorites as Opening Day nears. They had a spectacular offseason and brought in several free agents to bolster their chances after winning a title in 2024.

However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to face adversity. In fact, they already are dealing with a few issues.

Recently, slugger Mookie Betts has been dealing with a stomach virus. The virus has caused him to drop close to 20 pounds and even led to him being scratched from Sunday’s lineup.

Betts recently commented on his illness and expressed frustration over the situation.

“I just want to play,” Betts said. “I’m tired of sitting, tired of just throwing up, tired of doing all this. I just really want to play.”

Betts certainly has had better weeks, and if the Dodgers are going to be without him for a while, they’ll be facing a tough challenge, even with all the depth on their roster.

The 32-year-old was feeling better prior to Sunday’s game and was set to start at shortstop, only for his symptoms to return and lead to him being scratched from the lineup.

“My body’s just kind of eating itself,” Betts continued. “It’s hard to not fuel it. And so, every time — literally, every time — I fuel my body, I throw up. … I don’t know what to do.”

This illness understandably has Betts down in the dumps. He has been able to work out, but any time he eats, the symptoms return.

Hopefully, he can recover soon and get ready to be a force in the Dodgers’ lineup in 2025. We’ll see if he can get back to normal.
