Dodgers 5-player trade proposal lands 2 Twins’ relievers

The Los Angeles Dodgers may be targeting relievers in the next couple of days. The Minnesota Twins could provide them with two new arms to deploy out of the bullpen.

The Dodgers’ bullpen has a 4.29 ERA on the season. They have been decimated by injuries and could benefit from adding reliable arms for the stretch run. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter proposed this deal that would bring Griffin Jax and Danny Coulombe to Los Angeles:

  • Dodgers receive: Griffin Jax and Danny Coulombe
  • Twins receive: Alex Freeland, Patrick Copen and Brendan Tunink

“Flame-throwing closer Jhoan Durán is the Twins’ best trade chip, but there’s a case to be made that a package of Jax (49 G, 21 HLD, 3.91 ERA, 14.1 K/9) and Coulombe (40 G, 8 HLD, 1.16 ERA, 9.0 K/9) would be more valuable to the Dodgers at a similar acquisition cost,” wrote Reuter. “Jax is controllable through 2027, while Coulombe would be a straight rental.”

The Dodgers would be giving up three of their Top 30 prospects in exchange for Jax and Coulombe. Jax had a 2.03 ERA last season. This year, he has a 3.91 ERA, but his underlying metrics say he has been much better than his overall stats.

The Dodgers may also be in the market for an outfielder and perhaps a closer. However, adding arms to deploy in the middle innings is important given the team’s injuries. They should get Tanner Scott back at some point, so they may not actually need a closer if they have faith that Scott can be better than he has been.
