Barcelona sporting director Deco has confirmed PSG approached the club over teenage phenomenon Lamine Yamal in 2024 – but no official bid was submitted.
Speaking at a press briefing on May 22, Deco offered an update on the rumour, and he was clear on how PSG tried to seize one of their brightest recent La Masia graduates.
“Last season, some people asked questions about Lamine Yamal. PSG asked questions about him, Real Madrid did not,” as per RMC Sport.
This update answers months of speculation that PSG were prepared to pay €250m [$282m] for the winger, a figure which had previously been floated by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, but French outlet L’Equipe denied PSG’s interest at the time.
Lamine Yamal has gone on to smash a host of records, including becoming youngest-ever scorer for both Barcelona and Spain.
He also starred in Spain’s run to the UEFA Euro 2024 title last summer, becoming the youngest-ever star to play in a Euro final, surpassing Renato Sanches’ benchmark.
Yamal is contracted with Barcelona until 2026, with talks ongoing over a long-term extension, but Deco also denied he will be made the club’s top earner.

Could Lamine Yamal join PSG?
Despite the rumours linking Lamine Yamal to Paris Saint-Germain continuing to swirl, the possibility of a transfer remains highly unlikely, due to his importance at Barcelona.
Hansi Flick will fight every step of the way to keep him in Catalonia – despite the financial might of PSG – and his retention is a clear priority.
Even if PSG return with a record-breaking offer in 2025 or 2026, both Barcelona and the player have made their stance clear.
Lamine Yamal, has consistently voiced his loyalty to Barcelona when asked about his future at club level.
“I don’t hear about it,” he told Mundo Deportivo regarding transfer speculation. “Firstly, and above all, because I have a contract and I think it’s impossible that I’d go to another club.”
