Denver Broncos top draft prospect may already be out of reach

The Denver Broncos could go in several different directions with their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The team has several needs and there should be some great options with the No. 20 overall pick.

However, it’s starting to seem unlikely that Penn State tight end Tyler Warren is still on the board. He may not be the top prospect on the board for every Bronco fan, but he’s the guy I’ll be beating the drum for from now until April 26.

But the secret appears to already be out. Teams from around the league and draft analysts have noticed the incredible potential the athletic tight end has and the latest indication of this is inside the mock draft recently done by Eric Edholm of NFL.com. He has Warren going to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 5 overall pick.

In the most recent mock drafts conducted by Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah, Warren is off the board by the time the Broncos go on the clock. Both analysts have the Broncos taking a safety with their first-round pick.

Tyler Warren may be long gone by time Broncos come up in first round of draft

What does this mean? The Broncos will either have to make a costly trade up to get Warren, pivot to a different tight end, or select a player at a different position.

There is no guarantee that the Broncos have tight end as their top priority in the draft, but it should be pretty high on the list considering how inept the position has been for the team in recent years. In 2024, four tight ends combined for 51 total catches for the Broncos. They scored five touchdowns.

The output could certainly be worse, but Warren has the ability to easily eclipse those numbers by himself. Think of the production that Brock Bowers gave the Las Vegas Raiders this season (112 receptions, 1,194 yards). Though those were record-setting numbers for a rookie tight end, Warren has the ability to be just as impactful.

He looked a lot like Bowers while at Penn State this season, catching 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. A great example of how the Nittany Lions felt about their tight end was plays like this.

How often do you see a tight end run the ball out of a Wildcat formation?

He also threw passes in college and is an incredible run blocker as well.

Warren is a complete, do-it-all tight end who is going to excel at the next level. If there was one player in this draft Broncos fans should be jumping for joy if the team is able to get, this is him.

But that is starting to feel like a pipe dream.
