Denver Broncos take first wide receiver off the board in 2026 mock draft

The Denver Broncos have the entire 2025 season ahead of them, but the wide receiver position is already one that could be a concern.

The Broncos have a solid option in Courtland Sutton, but it remains to be seen which player is going to step up behind him. An injury scare earlier in the week with Marvin Mims Jr. also highlighted the fact that the team would be quite thin at the position if one of the receivers on the 53-man  roster goes down.

Following the season, expect the wide receiver spot to be one of the team’s biggest needs… still.

Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic recognizes that fact and has the Broncos, at the No. 22 spot in the first round, taking Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson next spring.

“The preseason WR1 in this class, Tyson (6-1, 195) is explosive and fearless over the middle. He combines great ball tracking and production with an intense desire to block. His game makes him feel a bit like a (possibly) faster version of Emeka Egbuka”, wrote Baumgardner.

Tyson comes from an athletic family and his brother is currently on the roster of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA. He began his college career at Colorado but after one season there, entered the transfer portal and went to Arizona State. He put together a huge season for the Sun Devils last year, helping the team qualify for the College Football Playoff by catching 75 passes for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns.

That put him on the national map and into the first round of projected picks in 2026. He is the first wide receiver off the board in Baumgardner’s mock and could be the pick of the litter for a team needing a wide receiver.

The Broncos don’t have any free agents at wide receiver in 2026, but a player like Tyson would be a terrific addition to the roster and could help balance things out more and perhaps take some pressure off of Sutton. If a player such as Troy Franklin or Mims steps up and has a huge 2025 season, this position may not be seen as such a pressing need.
