Deion Sanders’ new shoes, explained: Nike Air Diamond Turf colorway sparks a Falcons vs. 49ers debate

Deion Sanders wore a few different helmets during his NFL career, winning Super Bowls with two teams and earning an All-Pro selection with three.

While fans may know Sanders better as Coach Prime today, the Hall of Famer’s new Nike sneakers are sparking a fresh debate about his NFL career.

The sneakers include colors worn by both the Falcons and 49ers, leading some fans to argue he’s paying tribute to the early years of his NFL career with Atlanta and others to claim he’s harkening back to his Super Bowl season in San Francisco.

What’s the actual meaning behind the shoes, and where can you get them? Sporting News has you covered.

Deion Sanders Nike Air Diamond Turf shoes

Sanders is releasing “Fire Red and Metallic Gold” Nike Diamond Air Turf 1 sneakers in his latest collaboration with Nike. He previously released Colorado-themed Air DT Max sneakers in 2024.

The sneakers, which pay homage to the signature shoes he wore in the early 1990s, feature red, black and a hint of gold along with white.

The colors are similar to those that were on Sanders’ original sneakers in the 1990s, but it’s easy to interpret them as either a tribute to the Falcons or the 49ers. The red and black certainly pop, and the shade of red is light enough that they look more like Falcons-themed shoes at first glance.

Gold, however, is not in the Falcons’ color scheme. The 49ers wore red, black and gold when Sanders played for the team in 1994, leading many to believe the shoes reference his brief stint in San Francisco.
