Daytona International Speedway might be a scoundrel of a surface for NASCAR’s best and brighter drivers come race day, but few sites have the appeal — and the history — of the 101,500-seat coliseum, known more affably as the World Center of Racing.
While the Daytona 500 has been defined — and in some ways, marred — by its unpredictability, the race still represents one of American motorsports’ greatest spectacles.
There are no guarantees atop the fraying asphalt that lines the 2.5-mile menace. It’s more monstrosity than racing surface, adept at swallowing thoroughbreds in an instant.
Still, starting position plays a major role in determining the shape and tenor of the race. After all, The Big One haunts all those who step in its path. You’d rather be in front of her than behind when she finally lets loose on the Cup Series field.
With that, The Sporting News fills you in on the starting lineup for the 2025 Daytona 500.

Who won the Daytona 500 pole for 2025?
Chase Briscoe nabbed the pole at the World Center of Racing, a seismic accomplishment for the newly minted Joe Gibbs Racing driver.
Briscoe posted a scorching 49.425s lap time (182.745 mph), a hair faster than Austin Cindric’s 49.173s mark (182.463 mph).

Briscoe’s performance was momentous for a host of reasons. For one, he became the first Toyota driver to capture the pole at The Great American Race, bringing Ford and Chevy’s dominant reigns to a close, at least for a short while.

The pole wasn’t the first of Briscoe’s career — he now has three to his name. However, to do so in the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 represents a new high for Briscoe, who replaced the iconic Martin Truex Jr. in the chariot for the 2025 season.
“A great way to start our season,” Briscoe said, via NASCAR.com. “Unbelievable way to start off the year. Unbelievable way to start off with Toyota. To be able to be the guy to deliver them the first anything when they’ve already accomplished so much is pretty cool.
Cindric, the 2022 Daytona 500 champion, will join Briscoe in the front row. The Team Penske talent has five top-three finishes at Daytona in his still budding career. He’s on good pace to potentially nab another in 2025.
