Inter Miami were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat against Minnesota United in the Major League Soccer on May 10 at Allianz Field.
This loss marked to be the most crushing one that the Herons have faced since Lionel Messi joined the club in July 2023. The Argentine icon scored the sole goal for his side against Minnesota.
Following the win over Messi’s side, Minnesota United took to their official Instagram account and posted a photo from the match with a snapshot of the MLS table, with them ranking fifth, right above Inter Miami with a one-point difference.
The caption on the post by Minnesota United read, “Pink Phony Club,” which is a reference to the Chappell Roan song Pink Pony Club altered as a jibe to the color of Inter Miami’s kit.
While the post might have been made with the intention of banter, Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham commented on it, asking Minnesota to ‘show a little respect.’
What did David Beckham say?
Inter Miami started this ongoing season strong with an undefeated run in the MLS. However, the Herons’ run witnessed a gradual decline, and the defeat against Minnesota marks to be their fourth loss in their past five matches across all competitions. They were also recently eliminated from the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal.

Minnesota United’s post on Instagram did not seem to sit right with Beckham, who commented,
“Show a little respect @mnufc be elegant in triumph”

The banter did not stop at that, as following Beckham’s first comment, Minnesota made another post on Instagram that involved an image of a banner from the match that read,
“History over hype, Culture over cash”
The words on the banner ‘hype’ and ‘cash’ were highlighted in pink, and the caption of the post read, “49 years and counting.” The banner was a jibe at Inter Miami, who were formed just seven years ago in 2018, along with the number of prominent names they have recently signed, including Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, among others.
Beckham commented on this post as well, repeating his point on the importance of ‘respect’ towards fellow clubs. The former English star’s comment read,
“Respect over everything 🩷 @mnufc”
Inter Miami are set to face San Jose Earthquakes next in MLS on May 14, at PayPal Park. It remains to be seen if Messi & Co. are able to return to their winning ways on Wednesday.
