The Dallas Stars coaching search may be coming to a close.
In a X post from TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Dreger reported that the Stars have offered former Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan a head coaching position following the firing of Peter DeBoer.
“Glen Gulutzan has been offered the @DallasStars head coaching job. Negotiations on contract are underway,” Dreger posted.
Gulutzan is not a stranger to Stars fans. Gulutzan coached Dallas during the 2011-2012 and the 2012-2013 seasons where he missed the playoffs in both seasons with Dallas.
In his first season with the Stars in 2011, he led them to a 42-35-5 record (89 points), which was six points short of making the playoffs. In his second season, the NHL had a lockout season where teams only played 48 games. That year, the Stars went 22-22-4 (48 points) and finished in fifth in the Pacific Division.
Since then, Gulutzan has had a two-year coaching stint with the Calgary Flames for the 2016-2017 and the 2017-2018 seasons. Gulutzan led Calgary to the playoffs his first season with the Flames with a 45-33-4 record, where they fell to the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the playoffs. In his second season, Gulutzan failed to make the playoffs as Calgary finished 37-35-10 in the 2017-18 season.
Gulutzan has revived his coaching career, however. Gulutzan is currently the assistant coach of the Edmonton Oilers, where he helped Edmonton get to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers.
