D.J. Reed ready to make big commitment if Lions win first Super Bowl

Entering the 2025 season, the Detroit Lions appear to be one of a few teams that has legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.

The team made it to the NFC Championship Game in 2023, and then bowed out in the divisional round of the playoffs last season. The main pieces of the roster are still in place, and the team appears to be solid on both sides of the ball.

This offseason, the team didn’t have to make many moves, but the moves it did make could be impactful. None more so than the addition of veteran cornerback D.J. Reed, who the team is relying on to fill the void left by Carlton Davis II.

Reed was brought in on a three-year deal worth $48 million. The veteran impressed during his time with the New York Jets, and should be a reliable starting option on the boundary opposite Terrion Arnold. Several teams could’ve used a player like Reed, but the Lions won the bidding war for the corner’s services.

It’s safe to say that Reed is already enjoying his time in Detroit. The corner took to social media on Wednesday to declare that he “might” get a tattoo repping the city if the Lions win the Super Bowl in 2025.

“If we win the SB I might get the 313 tatted on me dawg,” said Reed. 313, of course, is the area code for the Detroit area.

That would be a huge commitment from Reed, and the act of getting a tattoo would definitely make Reed a fan-favorite among the passionate Lions’ fanbase.

Winning a Super Bowl with the Lions would be a huge accomplishment, though, so it’s understandable. The Lions are one of few teams that have never even played in a Super Bowl, let alone won one.

The Browns, Jaguars, Texans, and Lions are the only teams that have yet to appear in a Super Bowl. In 2025, the Lions seem to be in the best position to remove themselves from that list.

If the team does reach its ultimate goal, Reed will likely play a large role. In 2024, the defender racked up 64 tackles, four tackles for loss, and 11 pass deflections. The defender earned a solid 70.7 Pro Football Focus grade for his 2024 performance.

Overall, Reed has racked up 414 tackles, six interceptions, and 51 pass deflections in his seven-year career. The Lions struggled in pass defense last year, and Reed should help turn that around.
