Cubs trade idea adds Cy Young winner for No. 1 prospect

The Chicago Cubs are gearing up to try to reach their first World Series since they won it all in 2016.

Chicago has been one of the surprise teams in Major League Baseball this season. Even though the Los Angeles Dodgers have the best roster in the league, there is still a good chance the Cubs can knock them off this October.

If the Cubs want to reach the World Series, adding another starting pitcher is a must.

Rich Eberwein from Fansided thinks the Cubs could try to trade for Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara and part ways with No. 1 prospect outfielder Owen Caissie.

“The Marlins have two controllable starters that the Cubs are interested in – former Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara and intriguing young righty Edward Cabrera. Cabrera is the more desirable option right now since he entered the week with a 3.48 ERA through his first 17 starts this year, and the Cubs could slot him into their rotation for several years to come,” Eberwein wrote. “He is also two years younger and has an extra year of control. “Alcantara is having a rough year on the mound with an ERA of 6.66 through 20 starts. But his track record was good before getting Tommy John and maybe a change of scenery, a boost from the Cubs’ pitching development team, and contending for a division for the first time in his career could turn things around for the 29-year-old. Pairing Caissie with Miami slugger Kyle Stowers would give the team two exciting young hitters to build around for the forseeable future.”

Alcantara, a two-time All-Star with his latest appearance coming in 2022 when he won the Cy Young award, would be a nice addition for the Cubs.

Even though Alcantara has a -1.5 WAR this season, he could change his luck when he joins one of the best teams in the MLB.
