Pete Crow-Armstrong has been on a tear this season with the Chicago Cubs. The slugger has already put his name in contention to be the National League MVP with what he has showcased across the diamond in 2025.
He has played in 136 games so far this season, hitting .250/.290/.493 with 34 doubles, 28 home runs, and 83 runs batted in. He has been a key factor in the Cubs holding on to the top wild-card spot in the NL.
However, his offensive numbers have taken a bit of a hit. In August, the slugger hit just .163 with one home run and five runs batted in. He was given the day off on Tuesday and is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s matchup against the Atlanta Braves.
Manager Craig Counsell spoke to reporters ahead of their Wednesday night game. He provided some clarity on his decision to sit Pete Crow-Armstrong for a second day in a row, via Marquee Sports.
“Just the thought was we’re kind of giving him a chance with the off day here to give him a real break, and to just kind of give him a reset a little bit. He didn’t do anything yesterday, so it was kind of like a full off day. He played in the ninth inning, but didn’t hit at all yesterday. He really took the day off from hitting,” said Counsell. “Just to give him a physical and mental break.”
Pete Crow-Armstrong is not the only key Cubs figure missing from Wednesday’s starting lineup
Kyle Tucker is another key figure in the Cubs organization. He has played great this season, but will be missing from Wednesday’s action after exiting Tuesday’s game early.
Tucker’s early exit came not long after he blasted a three-run home run to help his club win. He will miss Wednesday’s game, and the club will reevaluate him ahead of their weekend series against the Washington Nationals.
