Crystal Palace reach agreement for Ligue 1 star to strengthen one key area

Crystal Palace have reportedly agreed a €27m [$31m] deal with Toulouse for France youth international Jaydee Canvot.

The 19-year-old, who emerged at his boyhood club last season, is expected to sign a five-year contract at Selhurst Park once final details are resolved.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the agreement on his X account on Friday [August 29] where he wrote:

“Crystal Palace agree deal to sign French centre back Jaydee Canvot after exclusive story revealed last week. #CPFC finalising documents exchange with Toulouse. “

Canvot impressed last season and built a reputation as a versatile defender. French star usually plays as a centre-back but is also comfortable in midfield due to strong anticipation and composure.

The signing shows Palace are investing heavily in youth talent and seeking defensive depth before the new campaign.

This move also signals forward planning as the club face difficult decisions about captain Marc Guehi’s immediate future.

Crystal Palace decision comes as Marc Guehi future remains uncertain

Marc Guehi has entered the final year of his Palace contract and growing reports suggest Liverpool are pushing strongly to sign the England international this summer.

Reports now suggest that Crystal Palace fear losing him for free next summer if no deal is made now.

Chairman Steve Parish addressed uncertainty, saying: “If Marc wants to sign a new contract then he can stay! It’s a difficult situation.”

“Everyone has to sell players to comply with the [financial] rules. It’s a situation we’ll have to look at in the next days.”

With Canvot close to arriving, Palace now appear prepared for Guehi’s possible exit during the current transfer market.
