Cristiano Ronaldo would change one thing about how Real Madrid use Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid career has already had its fair share of ups and downs, and one of the club’s greatest ever players has chimed in on what should be done to ensure things get better from here on out.

The Frenchman had a rough first few months at the Bernabeu, but his form has since picked up with five goals in three January Liga games.

And while Ronaldo made it clear in a recent interview with El Chiringuito that he sees a bright future for Mbappe at the club, he also felt that one tactical call made by manager Carlo Ancelotti has served as an obstacle for the attacker’s first six months in Spain.

“The striker position makes it a bit difficult for Mbappe, because he doesn’t know how to play as a striker in my opinion…not that he doesn’t know, [but] it’s not his position,” said Ronaldo (in quotes transcribed by 90Min)

“If I were at Real Madrid, I would teach him to play as a ‘nine’. Because I wasn’t a striker. I got used to playing as a striker. I played on the wing and people forget.

“I love him very much, and not only because of the story he had as a young man that he loved Cristiano Ronaldo very much and he was his idol.

“But I really see him as a [star] and he is going to give Real Madrid a lot of joy.”
