Cristiano Ronaldo told NBA star would have ‘doubled’ his record social media followers

Cristiano Ronaldo has been told that NBA legend Michael Jordan would have “doubled” his record-breaking social media following if he played in today’s digital age.

The Portuguese superstar is currently the most-followed person on Instagram, with an incredible 648 million followers.

His YouTube channel has also made waves, reaching 1 million subscribers in 2024 and now boasting over 73 million views. These impressive numbers have helped Ronaldo earn massive revenue through sponsorships and endorsements.

Despite his dominance in football and social media, Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen believes Michael Jordan could have attracted an even larger audience had social media existed during his prime.

Pippen made the bold claim during an interview on the PBD Podcast.

Pippen explained how Michael Jordan would have ‘doubled’ Cristiano Ronaldo’s social media numbers

Pippen said, “Yeah, I mean hey, it would have been different. Looking at these numbers, you just don’t know. Being a player in the ‘90s, we didn’t grow up in this social media era, but for who you’re talking about? He’s one of the greatest players, greatest athletes in the world, and 648 million speaks for itself.”

The former Bulls star went on to add, “I think he would have probably doubled that, I’m going to be honest. Basketball in the ‘90s, when it first jumped off, just having social media back then would have been amazing.”

Jordan’s influence on the sporting world is undeniable. His groundbreaking deal with Nike in 1984 paved the way for athletes like Ronaldo to capitalize on their global fame.

The Jordan brand continues to thrive, featuring in elite sports such as football through Paris Saint-Germain’s collaboration.

While Ronaldo has set records with his presence online, Pippen’s remarks highlight just how influential Jordan was in his time.

The debate over who is the greatest sports icon continues, but one thing is clear – both Ronaldo and Jordan have left a lasting mark on their respective sports.

Ronaldo may lead in social media numbers today, but in another era, Jordan might have been the true king of the digital world.
