The Dallas Cowboys are looking for ways to get their talented players onto the field.
For 306-pound offensive lineman Asim Richards, that could mean in a new role.
Richards is being tested out as a “jumbo” package tight end.
“We’ve got jumbo tight ends we’re training,” coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters. “You look at Asim Richards. He’s not playing just tackle. He’s playing tight end.”
Richards, who is 6-foot-4, was a fifth-round draft pick in 2023.
He has already seen time as a guard and as a tackle, and now, the Cowboys are bumping him out even wider for specialty formations.

It’s not clear whether Dallas would ever throw to Richards, but as an extra blocker, he certainly could play a key role.
Teams like the Buffalo Bills have shown that six-lineman formations can be extremely effective if deployed correctly.
Dallas may be hoping Richards can add that element to their offense.
